Flow.0 is an immersive light and sound-based installation. The installation explores the physical properties of water and patterns formed by water. 160 light fixtures which are suspended from the ceiling create patterns of flow and turbulence. These patterns of light are created using algorithms to recreate the natural properties of water through a digital medium. The soundscape for the space was also developed around these patterns and the rhythms that water produces. While the sonic palette is distinctively electronic/digital in nature, the rhythms that govern the motion/flow of the soundscape are fundamentally organic.
The installation was on exhibition from December to February 2023 at Sassoon Docks. Being Mumbai's longest-running fishing docks, Sassoon Docks has an incredible thriving community around it.  With the festival sharing a deep tie to its location, the theme of the installation revolved around the theme of "City and the Water". The piece captures the energy and pace of Mumbai city and draws parallels to the ebb and flow of water and the sea which drives the economy of the area around the docks.

159 custom-fabricated light fixtures hang from the ceiling. These fixtures are arranged along 5 separate lines which twist and flow around the columns and scaffolds present inside the 30 m long space. The fixtures are randomly offset from these "lines of flow"(this is illustrated in the animation showing the design process). This randomness in offsets creates a visual language which is clearly organic and even appears completely random when viewed from some angles. But when the lights are animated in sequence, the lines of flow become apparent.

The animation of the lights consists of 4 different sequences - which depict the different physical properties that water can take. From laminar to turbulent flow to the dissonant patterns of rain to the slow gentle oscillations of waves on the shore. The soundscape associated with each animation sequence also adds to the atmosphere and immersive nature of the experience. Although the soundscape is not organic in its choice of sounds, the rhythms that are expressed using this sonic palette relate much closer to the physical rhythms of water. In addition, the electro-mechanical relays that are positioned overhead to trigger the lights also create audible and satisfying clicking sounds which are perfectly in sync with the patterns of the light.
